I believe craftmanship is the word we should use when one performs a task that is very complex, with experience being the main factor in its successful completion. As such, software development is not quite a form of art, but it definitely should be acknowledged as a craft. Some people do it for fun, others for a living, some for both; we need to tend to a clever, working, beautiful achievement, even when we are not the ones getting their hands dirty in the code.
